Safer Surfacing
Maxplay can provide a range of 'safer surfaces' for use in conjunction with our play equipment.
A 'safer surface' is an impact absorbing layer that is applied below and around play equipment in order to assist in the protection of users from serious injury in the case of a fall or trip etc.

Grass Mats
Rubber, impact absorbing mats are a cost effective 'safer surface' solution which may be used for playequipment installed into an existing grass/soil area. The mats are laid under and around the equipment, following the natural contours of the ground. Holes in the mats allows grass to grow through the mats. This helps to bond the mats in place and allows for usual mowing of the grass. The mats can also help reduce the extent of soil erosion and provide a less muddy play area during wet periods.
Shown below, left, an example of a grass mat with, inset, grass beginning to establish & shown below, right, example of grass mat with grass fully established.

Below is an example of a Maxplay play tower before and after application of impact absorbing grass mats. The mats were freshly laid during winter when the imaged were taken, hence, the grass has not yet had opportunity to re-establish through the mats. During the growing season the grass will grow through the mats in a number of weeks.

Artificial Grass
This type of 'safer surface' is another ideal solution for application with play equipment installed into soil as a sub base is not required. Although, considerably more expensive than grass mats, it is ideal for reducing soil & grass erosion & creates an even finish to the play surface. Many different textures & finishes are available & the surface is very low maintenance as no cutting is required. If applying to a hard surface a sub base is required.
Below is an example of a Maxplay play tower before & after application of artificial grass which included a impact absorbing membrane.

EPDM Rubber
Often referred to as 'wetpour' or 'spongy tarmac' EPDM (ethylene propylene diene Monomer) is manufactured from rubber granules mixed with resin as a binder. The material is applied to the surface when wet. It can be laid onto an existing hard surface or an excavated area with sub base material.
An extremely versatile solution, available in many colours, providing a low maintenance 'safer surface'.
Below is an example of a Maxplay playtower installed into an existing hard surface playground before & after the application of EPDM rubber.

We can also install Maxplay play equipment into areas of existing EPDM rubber, as shown in the images below.
